Founded by Harvey Firestone in the year 1900, the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company provided tires for buggies, wagons, and other forms of wheeled transportation common during that era. As Harvey Firestone quickly saw the huge potential for marketing tires for automobiles, the company evolved into a pioneer in the mass production of tires. Firestone leveraged this relationship to become the original equipment supplier of Ford Motor Company automobiles. Sold in the year 1988, today Firestone is a subsidiary of the Japanese-owned Bridgestone Corporation.
